BayCAN celebrated its 1st Birthday on July 11th with a big regional meeting in Oakland attended by 80+ individuals from member organizations and regional/state partners.
The meeting's key focus was on networking -- helping members learning from each other through 4 small group exercises:
- How are you building support for adaptation work from higher-ups and elected officials?
- How are you mainstreaming adaptation across city or county departments?
- What is one cool project or program you have done on wildfires or sea level rise?
- Speed-dating (meet everyone in the room!)
After lunch and birthday cupcakes, Jessica Fain, Planning Director for the Bay Conservation and Development Commission presented an overview on BCDC’s plans to develop a regional sea level rise adaptation plan.
We concluded with “News from the Bay Area and Sacramento” on adaptation, resilience and related topics.
